How do I apply for Canadian Citizenship?

To apply for citizenship, you must meet certain eligibility criteria and complete an paper application.

Eligibility Criteria :

Be a Permanent Residence of Canada

As a permanent resident you must have been physically present in Canada for at least 3 years (1095 days) during the last five years right before the date you sign your application.

Language Skills

If you are between 18 years to 54 years at the time of application, you must provide proof that you can speak and listen Canada’s one of two official languages English or French. You need to meet the Minimum level of Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) Level 4 or higer. As a proof you can submit your school certificate, diploma or degree which shows your language of instructions of the program was in English or French.

Filed Income Tax

At the time of application, you have filed your taxes in Canada for at least 3 years during the last 5 years.

Demonstrate how well you know Canada

If you’re 18 to 54 years of age on the day you sign your application, you need to take the citizenship test. You’ll need to answer questions about the rights and responsibilities of Canadians and show how well you know Canada’s history, geography, economy, government, laws and symbols.
The citizenship test is in English or French and duration of the test is 30 minutes. There are 20 multiple-choice and true or false questions based on the official citizenship study guide “Discover Canada”. Pass mark is 15 correct answers out of 20 questions.
Minors under 18 years of age and adult who are 55 years of age or above don’t need to take the citizenship test.
